One sided love affair

To say that Gavin loves our cat Josh is putting it a bit mildly.  Everytime Josh walks by him Gavin goes nuts.  Josh is a very loving cat but also is very moody and I really didn't expect him to be patient with Gavin at all.  Below are some pictures and a video I took over the weekend that kind of gives a glimpse into Gavin's one sided love affair with Josh.  The person you hear laughing on the video is me, he had actually started "talking" to Josh a few minutes before but I didn't hit record on the camera and didn't realize it either!

Notice the look of disdain on Josh's face!!

Thanksgiving

Well Gavin's first Thanksgiving came and went pretty quietly. We celebrated early (a couple of weeks ago) with my family while my brother was home from Houston so we only had Clay's family to eat with this year. Gavin has been sick with this awful cough for around 3 weeks now so I was worried he might be a bit fussy because it was getting worse. Well I should have known he would be on his best behavior especially when he had all those people paying attention to him. He was the center of attention all afternoon and absolutely loved it. And of course I brought the camera with me but in all the excitement completely forgot to take any pictures of him with all his extended family. Gavin did seem a bit disappointed when he didn't get to eat any Ham or Turkey but I managed to appease him with jars of Sweet Potatoes and Peaches. So the only pictures I got of him were late that evening so please excuse all of our tired looking faces and clothes :-)

Gavin's Dedication

This past weekend, Gavin was Dedicated at church.  For any of you that are Baptist you know that although this is a significant occasion, the actual ceremony lasts less than 5 minutes and that is only if there are multiple children .  So of course we only invited the grandparent's since they are the only ones that we wouldn't feel guilty about making attend our 8:45 service for less than a minute of hoopla.

The day before had been pretty trying.  Of course we waited until the last minute to go shopping to try and find him something to wear and we had to squeeze this in between Clay's morning of hunting and a birthday party that afternoon.  We finally found what we were looking for about 7 o'clock that night.  Considering all the time Gavin spent being put in his car seat, getting out of his car seat and then just riding around in general, he was a super good boy.

Of course I wanted EVERYTHING to be perfect and anytime you do that, you HAVE to know that it most certainly will NOT be perfect.  Not to mention when you add a 6 month old into the equation, you can't count on anything.  So Sunday morning I was already on edge before Gavin even woke up, poor Clay he is such a good husband!  Gavin who is usually a super happy baby was unbelievably grouchy that morning and screamed bloody murder while Clay was dressing him.  And then when Clay was holding him before we left the house Gavin spit up all over both of them.  This almost sent me over the edge because I had told Clay to put his "body bib" on him and he hadn't.  And all my most wonderful patient husband said was, "He is a baby, this stuff happens".  Well of course I know that this stuff happens but it isn't supposed to when he is wearing a red sweater and is having his picture taken!!!!  :-)

When we had set all this up they told me that the ceremony would be at the beginning of the service so that afterwards we could take him to the nursery where  he would be much happier and I would be less worried about him being a distraction with his eagle screams :-).  However it would seem that our preacher forgot about the ceremony so Gavin had to sit through the entire service.  His time was split between my Dad and Clay's Mom.  Neither seemed to be to thrilled with sharing but didn't cause a scene.  Gavin amazingly enough was really good and really quiet for most of the service which was SUCH a relief.  Dad didn't get any great pictures, he was kind of rushed along since the service had ran late,  but they are good reminders of the happy occasion!

Isn't his outfit the cutest thing ever!!  He looks like a little man!!

They gave us his first Bible and a nice keepsake card with all the details of the event on it.  They also took some more professional pictures of us after our service but I'm not sure how or if we will get copies of those.

6 months old a little late

Gavin turned 6 months old on the 12th!  I can't believe I am just now posting his pictures, BAD MOMMY!
He was not a very cooperative model and ripped his calendar paper immediately.  I think he was showing his displeasure with the whole process, see the part about attitude below :-)  His poor little cheeks were wind burned from us jogging earlier that morning.

This is about as good as it got.

This past month has really been neat.  He is turning into such a little human!  I know that sounds funny but when they are born and for several months after that they really don't do much or have much of a personality.  He did some stuff and of course me being a first time Mom, thought they were awesome and super cool but nothing like how he has started acting lately.  He has such a personality and loves to entertain you with his super loud noises and funny faces. He has the screech that is ear splitting but for some reason we all think it is funny :-).  Have you seen that Diet Mt Dew commercial where they impersonate eagles?  He sounds like that lady!  No kidding!! You definitely know when you have done something that he disagrees with like taking away a toy or not picking him up when he thinks you should.  But he has also started to reach for us, which absolutely melts my heart.  I am pretty sure he has also figured that out and uses it to his advantage :-).  He has also become a little stubborn and shows more and more signs of my attitude, uh oh!  What can I say, my parent's always told me I was going to have one just like me and it looks like they were right.  That means the teenage years could be dramatic :-).  He has gotten a lot better at sitting up by himself and can stay up for a good while.  And he is so close to crawling.  He can do both the arms and the legs but can't get them to go together at the same time.  He has mastered the going backwards though and it frustrates him BIG time because you can tell he is trying really hard to move forward and all he does is get farther away.

He has gone through all the commercially prepared single ingredient vegetables and started on the fruits on the 13th.  His first fruit was bananas which he didn't seem to like at all, as soon as I put it in his mouth he pushed it back out and then after a few more tries he just stopped opening it.
Happy boy right before he tries his bananas

Getting ready for the first bite

The next 3 are his reaction to the bananas

Ms. Amanda at school says he is eating them just fine though, of course.  He eats so much!  In the past week or two he has started eating a whole jar of veggies and a half jar of fruits.  This is in addition to his 5 bottles and 2 servings of cereal.  His current meal schedule during the week is
7am - 7oz bottle
10am - 7oz bottle
11am - 2 TBL cereal, 1 jar veggies, 1/2 jar fruit
1pm - 7oz bottle
4pm - 7 oz bottle
7pm - 8oz bottle and 2 Tbl cereal

On the weekend we don't do the 11 am thing, I just give him cereal with his 10am bottle and then the fruits and veggies with his 1pm bottle.  He doesn't seem to mind and believe me, I would know if he did :-).  He still takes at least 2 naps a day during the week.  He has stopped falling asleep on our way home at night which makes him grumpy, but I am hoping he will get back into the habit.  On the weekends if we are at home, he goes down for a nap 2 hours after he gets up and sleeps for at least an hour in the morning and then takes a long nap after he eats at 1.  He can still wear all his 3 - 6 month clothing which is suprising considering according to the weight chart he should have been out of them like 6lbs ago.  Some of them do seem to accentuate his belly though :-), so I have started putting him in 6 - 9 month sizes also.

Below are some super blurry pictures of his first teeth, he was most uncooperative for these shots :-)

First Teeth!!

Gavin got his first teeth this weekend, or at least this is when we noticed them :-).  He got super fussy Saturday afternoon while I was over at a friend's house, which is SO not like him, and then after we made a quick exit (I was the only one there with a child and everyone was trying to watch the GA game) he SCREAMED the whole way home.  All I could think was that somehow the smoke that was in the air had made his lungs hurt or something, I felt like such an awful Mom for even taking him outside.  Well after Clay got home from hunting and was holding Gavin trying to calm him down, he noticed two white things in the top of Gavin's mouth.  Well let me tell you Gavin was none to happy about our further investigation!  But after a few tries we finally got him to hold his head still enough to see that his two front teeth had broken through!  So of course we were super excited and relieved.  I was so amazed also that this was all the drama we had.  We did have trouble feeding him the two prior nights, which was unusual but other than that, he didn't act like anything was wrong at all.  He is such a wonderful baby!  What a blessing!!

We went to the park yesterday to eat with my parent's, little brother, and his girlfriend Ashley.  They were home from Houston for a couple of days.  Ashley is a budding photographer so I asked her to take some pictures of Gavin for me while they were here.  She did an awesome job, I can't wait to see the finished products!  She also happened to notice that Gavin was getting another tooth on the bottom!  It hasn't completely broken through but you could see part of it.  You could also tell where the one next to it was also coming to the surface.  At this rate he will have a full set of teeth before Thanksgiving!

Halloween Weekend

I feel so guilty since I haven't posted in weeks, like I am somehow letting Gavin down or something.  Strange I know :-).  And I am way late with the updates because Halloween was like three weeks ago!

We were bad parent's and didn't take Gavin to the pumpkin patch until the Friday before Halloween, not that he really knew the difference but I would have felt awful if I hadn't gotten some pictures of him there for his first pumpkin experience.  He was overall not impressed in the least, could have been that it was his nap time or all the cars, trucks, and people going by, or that he just doesn't care about pumpkins.  Either way we subjected him to tons of pictures in various poses trying to get at least one with him smiling and/or looking at the camera.  We failed, but at least I can have the memory of him being there and some cute pictures, just not of him smiling.

On to Saturday, when Halloween was celebrated by our city.  Again, we were horrible parents and didn't bother getting Gavin a costume until.....you guessed it Friday afternoon.  So, all the was left in the several stores that were checked was either a pumpkin costume or a ballerina.  Obviously we opted to continue the pumpkin theme from the day before.  Maybe, just maybe it would be more successful.  Oh the other fact about the costume was that it was a 12 - 18 month and Gavin is still wearing 3 - 6 month clothes.

We decided to celebrate Halloween by going to some friends house to watch the GA/FL game and then possibly go with them to a few houses if the game got over early enough for Gavin to still be in an agreeable mood.  Well, the Dawgs sucked it up once again and the game lasted forever!  So during the 4th qtr we got all the kids dressed up so the older ones could go get candy and so we could get some pictures of Gavin before he got too fussy.  You can tell by his expressions he is not at all excited about the pumpkin AGAIN.  I think he must have something against them.

This one is probably my favorite, he looks like he is begging us to take him out of the costume!

So obviously over the whole experience

I would rather be asleep

And when he can't get us to take him out, he decides to leave

So in repayment for all the torture we put him through, we decided to take him to the park to swing after church on Sunday.  He loves to swing!  In fact he loves it so much he will wear his sunglasses with out screaming.  Such a cute little boy!!

I love this picture

After he got tired of the swing I decided to let him practice his sitting skills on something a little softer than our wood floors at home.

Bad Mommy! Bad, Bad Mommy!!

I can not believe my little love bug will be 6 months old in just 3 days!!  I promise I will post those pictures quicker than I posted these :-).
